Area Electoral Officer Visits Kilcooley

Mark Gordon, Area Electoral Officer Mrs Jeanette Murray & Alison Blayney

Mrs Murray visited Kilcooley to hear from local community workers about the need to promote the importance of registration for voting.

It may seem a bit strange to hold such a meeting considering the General Election was held just over a month ago and the newly elected representatives have hardly had time to find their footing when it comes to Westminster business.

However Kilcooley thinks ahead and recognises in 2011 there will possibly be both local Council and Stormont Assembly elections held on the same day. To prepare in advance, Kilcooley has already pre-booked a number of ‘Pre-Election seminars’ and political awareness projects highlighting the importance of an individual’s right to vote.

The meeting also looked at ways to encourage people to register with the electoral office and what could be done to promote the electoral ID cards. It was agreed a number of key events with a guaranteed minimum number of clients would take place and various election promotion projects will also be used to draw attention to voting and how important it is.
